Although you are facing “one of those days”, remind yourself that God is still God. When insurmountable problems arise, remember that they can become effective opportunities to demonstrate God’s power.

  • When you can’t…God can.
  • When you aren’t…God is.
  • When you don’t….God does.

God is the positive in every negative situation. We can’t make it through the myriads of problems that we face in this life on our own. On the other hand, God CAN take us through life’s hurdles as an overcomer. When we face situations that maximize our lack and not-enoughness, we must remind ourselves that God IS enough. There will be times we don’t see our way forward, but God DOES know the way.

problems

As we face another week, we may be “…well in body although considerably rumpled up in spirit,” as Anne of Green Gables so aptly put it. Yet, God can bring peace and calm to our spirit.

If you are restless and wondering if life will ever be “right” again, know that God is with you. When whispering prayers in the dark, remember that God enlightens the darkness. He is enough for your heartache. His presence walks the dark valleys of life with us. When you just can’t….remember that God can.

Fixing the Problems

“Mom, you can’t fix all the problems,” was a statement said to me not too long ago. A reminder to right my skewed thinking that I had to fix everything. Have you been there? Trying to figure it out? Searching out solutions for situations that aren’t yours to fix? Righting the wrongs that you see in others? Compensating for the lack in another’s life?

When we take upon ourselves the problems and burdens not meant for us, we will find that overwhelm is quick to come. Consequently, negative emotions attach themselves and we become disheartened. Which in turn, affects those around us in a negative manner.

Problems, Pain and Peace

The situations that cause us angst, must be brought to the Almighty. The pain we are enduring was not meant to bring us isolation from God. In other words, life is meant to draw us nearer to God. Our lives were meant to be lived with the peace of God radiating from us, in spite of the circumstances we are facing. God wants us to bring our burdens to Him. He is strong enough. He is big enough. Our God can fix the impossible. Jesus gently says,

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

I don’t know about you, but the days and weeks that I have been walking through have brought about the highs and lows of emotions. As well as, an unexplained restlessness, and a taking on of burdens that are not mine to bear. I don’t want to stay in that place.

problems become opportunities

Adversity versus Opportunity

Consequently, we hit a wall of “we can’t do this…we aren’t enough…we don’t see a way through.” Our perspective has become skewed. Furthermore, our peace has been abdicated. It is a indication that something must be done when we are faced with a day or days of “can’t, aren’t and don’t”. Subsequently, there are steps we can take to regain God’s peace. As well as, important truths to remember.

  • Stop and correct your muddled thinking.
  • God’s perspective is never obscured.
  • Remove the negative.
  • Remind yourself that with God life is a positive.
  • Our adversity becomes God’s opportunity.
  • Take inventory of the burdens you are bearing.
  • Drop the burdens that don’t belong to you at the feet of Jesus.
  • Become the bearer of hope and peace to your family and community.
  • Receive His strength as you linger in His presence.
  • Go forward as God illuminates each step.

We will have “those days”. On the other hand, don’t make a permanent address change to “those days”. Remind yourself that God is still God. In our ‘can’t’, God CAN. Let your adversity become God’s opportunity.

Meanwhile, when faced with an indefinite future, remember that God has a definite plan. Come to Him over and over again. He does not weary of our continual coming. In fact, He beckons us to come. Come and find rest for your soul.
