The darts of fear and unbelief riddle my heart as I walk through uncertainty. Truths I had known in the good times seemed to have slipped from my mind. Moments fill with questions and doubt.
My heart reaches up in prayer to my Heavenly Father, but the enemies darts come thick and fast.
When fear of unanswered prayers grip my soul I cry, “Jesus, help my unbelief.” A tiredness fills my body, but I must go on. This is a fight I must win. I pick up my sword, which is the Word of God.
Foundational Truths
In the struggle against the spiritual darkness that threatens, I find that I must remind myself of the truths that I know. Foundational truths that will hold when my life is shifting all around me. Truths found throughout the Word of God.
- God is still in control
- God is still working even when we cannot see
- Our Father knows exactly what we need
- God can be trusted
- His mercies are new every morning
- God’s faithfulness is sure
- Jesus loves me
- Prayer is our pathway to God
- Keep on praying
When prayer seems not to work, when life is unfair and heartbreak is certain I must stand on the truths of God. I must choose to trust when I cannot see my way forward. When the enemy comes in like a flood, my God has promised to lift up a standard against him. (Isaiah 59:19)
Incident In the Flames
Shadrech, Meshach, and Abendego know a little about an unfair life, heartbreak and prayers that go unanswered. You can be sure that they had prayed for a different outcome than deportation to Babylon. They experienced heartbreak when separated from their families. Unfairness? You bet. They were royals in the palace one day and then the next they were walking the dusty road in chains as slaves. Yet they chose. They had decided that all of them was all of God’s whether God came through for them or not. They had chosen God and on God’s side they would remain even if they faced adversity.
Their ringing voices can be heard down through the ages, giving us who follow on a courage to keep on.
“If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.”
Daniel 3:17-18
Talk about foundational truths in the midst of spiritual darkness. They knew that God was in control. Belief that He was still working when they could not see held them steady. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego chose to believe in the Almighty God through the “if nots” of their life.
Those young men walked toward the flames when it looked like God would not show up for them. With a confidence in the Unseen God they took a stand of wholehearted trust. They knew their God and chose to place their lives completely in His hands.
No Miracle In Sight
No deliverance came while they stood before the king. The expected miracle did not happen as the furnace was stoked seven times hotter. During those moments of “no answer” their faith stayed anchored in who they knew God to be. It was in the flames that God showed up.
That God is the same God we serve today. He will show up even when He is a “no show.” As we walk through these uncertain times, remind yourself of the timeless truths of God. And if you don’t know the truths, go back to the Book.
God remains faithful through all our days. Our situations do not change who God is. We must choose to declare who God is and step out in faith in the hard “if not” moments of our own lives. When there is no miracle in sight rest in confidence in the God whom you know.
“When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my Hope and Stay.”
