I felt a kinship to the word ‘intimidated’ as I walked into the high-ceilinged, up-scale hotel. Crystal chandeliers and meticulously-kept rooms added to my unease. This was way out of my league. Think Country Mouse meets City Mouse. That feeling of wonder and overawe stayed with me as we checked in and make our way up the elevator and down the richly carpeted hall. As I collapsed onto the bed I wondered If I could really explore this city as I had planned. I felt inadequate and unprepared.

In Awe of God’s Love

The next morning, I stilled my anxious heart by anchoring in Scripture. The book of Isaiah came alive to me, particularly chapters 42-46. As I immersed myself in God’s Word my heart was filled with awe.

It wasn’t the intimidating kind of awe that brought anxiety and left me feeling sidelined like when I had entered the hotel the night before.

Instead, as tears chased down my cheeks, my heart was lifted in wonder and amazement at God’s great love and compassion for all people. Those He had created, chosen and called, but had turned away from Him, were still being called back to His arms.

In Wonder of God’s Compassion

God is still calling. He still comes alongside and whispers, ‘Fear not, I am with you.’

The LORD, the Holy One of Israel, the One high and lifted up shows up in the dailyness of life.

  • He makes a way when there is no way.
  • He makes a path through the mighty waves.
  • He turns darkness into light and makes the rough places smooth.

Does it seem like there is no way forward or that the waves of your life are threatening to pull you under? Are the shadows deepening into darkness and the rough places just too hard?

God will lovingly take you by the hand and lead you through the hard places. He makes a way through; this God who created the heavens, who formed the earth, and gives breath and spirit to the people on the earth loves you.

God delights in setting prisoners free and opening blinded eyes. He blots out our transgressions and does not remember sins.

Amazement at God’s Care

All the while, God reminds us that we are chosen and beloved. He is the One who will carry us down through old age. When our eyes have dimmed and our days draw to an end, He will carry us and not forsake.

He, who has created and formed us will not entrust our care to another.

  • His promise to pour out His Spirit is sure.
  • His purpose of redemption stands.
  • His righteousness becomes our shield.

Our God is God alone! He has created each of us for His glory. Let us stand in wonder and amazement before Him. Then purpose to live our life as an offering of worship to the God of heaven.
